Time:  From 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The annual Kentucky Civil War Roundtable Memorial Day Civil War Walking Tour of personalities buried in the magnificent Lexington Cemetery will begin behind the Henry Clay Monument. The walking tour will take about three hours. We will visit the burial sites of among the most noted personalities in the Civil War, particularly in the war West of the Appalachian Mountains. The gravesites of Generals John Hunt Morgan, Abraham Buford, John C. Breckinridge, Gordon Granger, Roger W. Hanson, Randall Lee Gibson and many, many others will be visited. Among the most interesting gravesites are those of Mary Todd Lincoln’s half-brothers, all of whom were Confederate officers, and her half-sisters, nearly all of whom married Confederate officers, one of whom was General Benjamin Hardin Helm, as well as the gravesites of Kitty M. Hill, the wife of General A.P. Hill; Major Henry B. McClellan, General J.E.B. Stuart’s Chief of Staff; Kentuckian Eliza Ripley, the Confederate informant and refugee of the 1862 Battle of Baton Rouge who fled to Mexico and Cuba; and all but two of General Morgan’s regimental commanders. This year we will also visit some surprising burial sites of personalities who recovered John Hunt Morgan’s body; secreted General Breckinridge to Florida and Cuba; fought and died in the first major battle in the west, Wilson’s Creek; took the “Lincoln Guns” out of pro-Confederate Lexington to Union Camp Dick Robinson, and many others.

Prepayment of $20.00 fee is required as the fee cannot be collected in the cemetery.
